Anxiety therapy.
You might recognize some of this.
- Worry that doesn't switch off, even when you logically know things are fine
- Physical symptoms like chest tightness, racing heart, headaches, or trouble sleeping
- Avoiding situations, conversations, or decisions that used to feel manageable
- Panic episodes, or fear of having one
- Anxiety tied to a specific trigger — work, social situations, health, parenting
- Anxiety on top of anxiety: being anxious about being anxious
The shape of the work.
The first session or two are for you to tell me what’s been happening, and for me to start understanding what’s underneath it. Anxiety can have many roots — sometimes a specific event, sometimes patterns going back further, sometimes a current situation pushing on something older. We sort through together.
After that, the work is collaborative: naming what’s driving the anxiety, learning skills to work with it in the moment, and tracing it back when that’s useful. Length and frequency of sessions depend on you and what you’re working on.
Models I draw from for this.
I take techniques from many models and match them to what you bring. For anxiety, that often means CBT for shifting thought patterns that fuel the worry, mindfulness-based work for being with anxiety in the moment without amplifying it, solution- focused brief therapy when you want concrete steps, and attachment-based work when the anxiety has older roots. Most people work in some combination.
