Getting started

How do I get started?
Email me at vanessa@peace-therapy.com or call (210) 504-8263. I reply to every inquiry myself, usually within one business day. Office details and a map are on the contact page.
Do I need to share specific health details when I first reach out?
No. The first message is just to start a conversation — your name, your email or phone, and a sentence or two about what’s on your mind. Clinical details come later, in the secure intake process after we’ve confirmed we’re a good fit.
What ages do you work with?
Children (ages 6 and up), preteens, teens, and adults. I work with individuals, couples, and families.
Can you see me if I'm not in San Antonio?
Yes, if you’re located in Texas at the time of session. I’m licensed in Texas only, so telehealth sessions need you to be physically inside Texas. See the online therapy page for how that works.

Insurance and fees

What insurance do you accept?
I’m in-network with TRICARE, Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Medicaid, and 20+ other plans. The fees & insurance page has the full list.
Do you take Medicare?
Medicare is not on my current panel list. If you’re on Medicare and would still like to work together, reach out — self-pay or out-of-network options may be possible.
What if I don't have insurance, or don't want to use it?
Self-pay is welcome. Affordable and effective care is a driving mission of my practice. A sliding scale is available based on eligibility, and I have supervised interns who can see clients at lower rates. We’ll discuss specific fees at our first conversation.
Do telehealth sessions cost the same as in-person?
Most insurance plans cover telehealth at the same rate as in-person therapy. Self-pay rates are the same for both formats. Confirm telehealth coverage with your insurer before our first session.
04 /  About the work

About the work

What does the 'Supervisor' part of your credentials mean?
LMFT-S stands for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor. LPC-Sstands for Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. The “Supervisor” designation means I’m credentialed to supervise other clinicians toward their licensure. For you as a client, it means additional years of training and the kind of depth that comes from teaching the work to others.
What therapy approaches do you use?
I draw from many models — CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, family systems, structural family therapy, mindfulness-based, solution-focused brief, attachment-based, psychodynamic, narrative, and more. I take techniques from all different models to fit you personally rather than picking one and forcing your situation into it.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes — couples and family therapy is my primary specialty. Whether you’re in a hard season together or trying to build something stronger from the start, I see couples at every stage. Sessions can be in-person or via telehealth.
Do you work with children and teens?
Yes. I see children ages 6 and up, preteens, and teens. I often work with parents alongside their kids; the specifics depend on what the family needs.
Is what I share kept confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential, with the limited exceptions required by Texas law (imminent harm to self or others, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, court order). We cover this in detail at the start of our work together so you know exactly what those exceptions look like.
Is this a crisis service?
No. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. This website is not monitored 24/7.
